Patanjali Yoga Sutra - 36

See the light and you become it

Vishoka Va Jyotishmati

Another form of meditation is on the luminous effulgent light that is beyond sorrow. Practices in many religions have a lot to do with light. Traditional Hindus light a lamp. Christians

light the candle and many light fires and invoke the presence of the divine too. There is also the worship of the sun, moon and many stars in the galaxy. What your mind watches for a while, it takes up that form.

In my own experience, I have always loved to gaze at the illumination of the serene soft light from a lamp placed in a dark room. Seeing the light even for a while, can throw up great visions that take you to the pleasant light that all of us are composed of. We are in essence beings of light.

During one such time spent in gazing at a lamp a couple of yeas ago, I had an arresting vision of a Jyotirlingam - a huge cylindrical column of light, fire compressed in the shape of a Lingam that has a flat circular base and ends in a round dome - orange in colour. As if covered by a sheet of glass, there was a layer of water, with more water constantly flowing over it. The circular base of the Lingam was of solid matter in the form of a black stone. After the water, there was air and then came space.

First I saw this apart of myself. Then analysing the contents further revealed that it was myself - the fire within, covered by the constant flow of water, air passing through and surrounded by space. The whole subtle structure is supported in the base of the body, that is gross matter. A moment of intensely watching the lamp led me to this inner realisation. - Swahilya Shambhavi swahilya.soulmate@gmail.com (Fitness, Satori)

Photo in the light reminds me of the eye when matter in surya kalai and chandra kalai raises and mixes at the eye. Prana move upwards above the eye.

It's said and still it is
Column of fire---Soul [golden-ornage]
Column of water----Energy on flow [Kundalini]

Tamasoma jyotirgamaya!

Light gazing is a form of meditation technique practiced by many. It is always better to do such practices with the guidance of the master .

True fruitu! But what I have mentioned here is not just about looking at light outside, but experiencing the light within....that is not seeing something, but being with an unseen presence!

Swahilya, how amazing your vision of a Jyotirlingam must have been. Truly awesome!!!

How have you been? I have a bit of bronchitis. Must be summer allergies but I am hanging in there.

Hugs, JJ

One tiny spec of light illuminates and sissolves the darkness, so is it with the light within that illumines as wisdom and dissolves the ignorance.
Wonderful post Swahilya!

Dearest JJ...My love to you. I learnt a Switchword technique which I pass on one to you. There are many words in the English language, devised by James T. Mangan - called Switchwords. To be able to achieve anything, use those switchwords as if you were pressing a switch and the light or fan is on! Together is a master switchword that goes with anything. Divine is the word for miracle With is the word to stay in tune and Change is the word to get relieved of pain.
So you can chant musically or as words - Together With Divine Change
and you may even see your pain and illness disappear as if by magic!
The switchwords are based on sounds and not on meanings. So wish you all the best and I can see that bronchitis disappear like clouds in a sunny sky!

Welcome Meena. Everything begins with the outside only to remind us of the same existing within.

This blog seems to have a special meaning for me because few days before you put this one up I had a strange dream of a Linga talking to me and through that I realised that He is within me, He is me...
I guess your blog is confirmation of what I dreamt.

Dear Swahilya,

I keep getting amazed by the similarities in visions and spiritual experiences among people from totally different cultural backgrounds and belief systems.

We may use different language in cloathing these visions, but they do exist on a plane of their own accessible to all.

Your post was a great reminder of this - thank you.
