....Indoors
A very cold day outta here (if someone is wondering about my sudden change in accent, well I'm jus' being Roman when in Rome - or rather being American when in America!). So a whole day was spent indoors with family and friends. Life is so comfortable in America and what would take out so much energy, cooking and cleaning, is just fun here. So I'm just being here, doing that. I am amazed about the connectivity this blog seems to be giving me. I have had quite long telephonic chats with bloggers who have visited my site and it's really fun to keep in touch this way.
Listening to music, meditation, helping out with work at home and being with my God Son was today so much a process of discovering myself as snow fills the roads, tree and roof tops outside.
The major thought for the day I wish to share. I was just wondering why the United Nations should not form a policy to give International Citizenship to people who wish to have them. The world is getting so close knit and global that it is really difficult to identify oneself to a small piece of land and say, I'm Indian, I'm Japanese, I'm a Filipino or an American. For those who wish to call themselves Citizens of the World - there should be a way out.
It is imminent and just around the corner. Countries have to just wake up to the reality, get together and work out a charter, frame rules for World Citizenship and issue it to those who comply with the rules and regulations after proper screening and scrutiny. After this will follow, world language, world culture and world money...and man we are well into the 21st Century and it jus has to happen! If the World is One, it has to be on paper all the same right? Way to make Truth work.

Dear Swahilya,
A thought I dwelled on for years now. I never feel belonged a nation. People going crazy over Patriotism does not seem right to me. Infact deeper levels of patriotism result in Fundamntalism and Terrorism. The feeling of belonging to one nation, one philosophy and one culture, never pleased me, It limits the freedom of thought.
Yaa, I would always love to call myself "World Citizen". My goal is to live or atleast travel in quite a few different cultures across the globe.
My very dear friend Norma, who is a 75 year old lady from Seattle, had travelled to pretty much all corners of the world and she is my inspiration. She started it from her Age 30, I guess and she is still on her feet...
with best wishes
Suman
Calm yourself Swahilya,
The internal world is all that matters.
Namaste
Wow!, Highs of 19 to 20 degrees F all week. That does seem cold.
@Sumonk: It's people like Norma who will have the vibrancy and dynamism of a flowing river - I'm right?
@Swati: Beautiful verse you have quoted from the Annapurna Stotram. And just the same way, I see myself getting the food, warmth, love and support everywhere I go. There is a Tamil saint too, I thing it is Ramalinga Vallalar (someone may correct me if I'm wrong) who said, Yadum Ure Yavarum Kelir - Every place is my city and everybody is my relative.
@Be Now: Yes, that's what I'm doing right now, being calm, silent and going with the flow. I'm really having fun all the same, within or without.
at this point seem to be too utopian, but who know we might wake up to that world soon. (Wishful thinking !! sigh)
swaha,
well, there is mother's auroville, conceived as a village of the world.
but my guess is that your vision will soon be a reality. look at the european union, we're moving together, not apart. And i don't mean mere unit for economic convenience.
btw, i thought your painting was very interesting.
cheers!
ramya
Hi Ramya, I'm online right now and good you reminded me of Auroville and EU. Yes you're right. Thanks about that painting. Let me know on mail swahilya@gmail.com, if you have a chat id.
World Citizenship.
It is my belief that we are all citizens of the world, even if we don't realize it. Every action we take as individuals effects others even without our knowing. We are all responsible for each other in this global family. :)
As for as Patriotism is concerned ..I believe every country has its fundamental values and cultures..which should be celebrated and revered. Too often through globalism we lose our great cultures to more outspoken and rich countries who seek to exploit globalism.
We don't need a new title to create World Citizenships, all we need is more tolerance and compassion for others beliefs and values throughout the world. :)
Great Post. :) THANKS!
@matt: OK
Like a soul resides in a body, we reside in a country.
But like the soul can travel anywhere at will, we cannot.
There's some disconnect, as you say, between truth and paper. Shouldn't we get it right? We sure should.
@susubala: You're right.
@adi: We sure should.
I proclaimed myself a planetary citizen at age 14.
Each of us can do the same.
Oh wow George. I didn't know. That much would do. A proclamation from within.
swahilya, we are citizens of the whole universe, why only world! just shift the identity from the limited body and boundary to the all pervasive aatman!
